James Curson – Managing Director

James founded Curson Carpentry Ltd in 2013 from a standing start. His visionary leadership, motivation and desire to achieve has led to the successful company it is today. After throwing himself into the industry when he was 16, he completed an apprenticeship with a local firm and has never looked back. After working for domestic clients for a number of years, James decided to tackle the commercial sector, progressing to work with some of the biggest names in the industry today. James has a keen eye for detail and looks to all that work for him to produce their work to the same high standard, also being a excellent business man he knows what is best for the company and strives to make the business reach is full potential. James appreciates country pursuits and spending time with friends and family alike.

Tom Whymark – Business Development Manager

Tom is our spokes person for the company. He cultivates our existing clients alongside bringing new opportunities with potential clients. He is a brilliant ambassador for the business as he reflects all our core values to other companies and clients. Tom joined the British Army in September 2004 and served in overseas peacekeeping operations and war fighting deployments with the 1st Battalion Royal Anglian Regiment (The Vikings). During his 7 years’ service Tom developed some fundamental core values (Courage, Discipline, Respect for Others, Integrity, Loyalty and Selfless Commitment ) and strives to uphold these in our business today. He is a vital part of our business and is a friend to us all.

Gill Dowling – Office Administrator 

A real unsung hero.
Gill works with every member of the team from our Managing Director to the operatives on site dealing with any problems anyone needs, her role is very versatile. Imagine her role to be like a Swiss watch, she is the workings behind what tells the time. Gill works with the Contracts Department dealing with new enquiries, assists accounts in processing incoming and outgoing transactions, prints and manages drawings, create job files and return PQQs. She even books heavy plant and cranes. Gill is normally the first point of call for anyone contacting our organisation. She has over 15 years’ experience in her role and thoroughly enjoys working here as you never know what can happen in each day. When she is not at work she likes to be creative at home and is into arts & crafts and homemade products.

Gary Fenner – Operations Manager

Gary joined the company in September of 2019, after a background in construction, carpentry and joinery beginning in 1989. He has had a long standing varied role in construction and has gained unique skills over the years. Having qualifications in carpentry and joinery, he really knows his stuff and knows when he sees a good carpenter! Gary is well suited for the challenging role of day to day management on sites. We are glad for him to be part of the team. Gary also appreciates and participates in the pursuits of country life.

Darren Garner – Commercial Manager

Darren is the man behind the screen. He is our Commercial Manger who assists us with managing contracts, evaluates and manages costs and submits valuations. His goal for the company is to improve the companies profits to allow future development and investment. For the last 30 years he has had experience in carpentry and joinery, and his experience in the working environment makes him a valuable member of our team.

Collen Smith – Senior Estimator

Collen is our Senior Estimator. This means he looks after new projects, prices them and chases up contractors and carpenters to get the job done. Collen has a degree in Quantity Surveying and Project Management, graduating from The University of the Orange Free State. In his spare time he plays rugby, originally playing professionally for Namibia, his home country. Collen has always been a working in his current field of work, so his teamwork skills and knowledge in estimating makes him a crucial member of our team.

Freddie Heath – Social Media, Video and Marketing Co-coordinator

Freddie is the man with the tech. Joining our team at age 17 on a part-time basis whilst undertaking Media Production at college. Freddie makes our videos, takes our photos and updates our media profiles, which we see as essential in this day and age. He has experience in producing videos, skills in photography, editing and has a multitude of creative abilities. As the company is rapidly growing and expanding, we have the need for someone to keep our media pages updated on ALL platforms. He fits the job perfectly and we are glad to have him on board.
